It took placing in every event to score points, but the South Winn boys’ track team left Independence Thursday evening with the team title with 159.50 points.

The 4x400 team was the lone event to score top points for the Warriors, crossing the finish line in 3:51.67.

Collecting second-place finishes for South Winn were Ben Meyer in the 400m dash, Alex Stammeyer in the 800m run, Garrett Bohach in the 1600m run, and Chris Brincks in the 100m high hurdles.

Brincks had perhaps one of the best meets of his career as he finished fourth behind teammate Jordan Rommes in the high jump and third in the 400m hurdles.

Aside from his third place in the high jump, Rommes bested teammate Jared Schroeder in the 200m dash to claim another third-place finish in a time of 24.88.

Boys open track season at Waverly

Boys open track season at Waverly

North Fayette finally got its outdoor track season started Friday, April 5, at Waverly. The Hawks finished sixth in a field crammed with Class 3A schools. Decorah edged the host Go-Hawks, 135-129.

Head coach Mark Nuss stated, “There was a lot of strong competition at this meet. In comparing the times with the Beckman meet, if we had we gone there with the girls, we would have done much better. However, it was good to get a meet in, and we got a lot of good experience against some rugged teams.”

In the medal race, NF brought home four bronze medals. Danny Halva (3200) and Colin Vagts (100) each won individual bronze medals.

Also placing third were the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Derrick Kuehner, Derik Lau, Trevor Hurd and Colin Vagts ran the 4x100. The foursome of Kuehner, Leif Lujan, Zach Bruns and Vagts ran the 4x200.

The Word of God

The Word of God

By Pastor Rip Baillargeon

First Baptist Church, W.U.

Being a Christian, I know that in the Bible Jesus is called the Word. John 1:1 begins: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God. And the Word was God. John continues by saying that “through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.

At first, it seems to be a little strange to call someone the Word. What was John thinking when he wrote these words? Why would he choose “Word” as a means of describing Jesus?

Perhaps this will help to get a better understanding.
