TigerHawks blow by Cyclones, 38-3

If you look at the stats from Friday’s football game at Denver, it seemed close; if you look at the final score, it was a blowout for North Fayette Valley, 38-3.

Denver actually ran more plays, 59-52, and probably was ahead in time of possession.

However, the TigerHawks had the big stats: 410 yards rushing (9.1 yards per rush) and 38 points.

The Little Cyclones kicked up an early breeze, taking the opening kickoff and driving down the field.

The NFV defense stiffened, forcing a 35-yard field goal, giving the home team a 3-0 lead. It was the first time this season the TigerHawks have trailed in a game.

NFV - Coach’s Corner

NFV - Coach’s Corner

St. Ansgar (0-0, 3-0) @ NF (1-0, 3-0)

“It’s a big game,” stated NFV head coach Bob Lape. “The good news is that it’s at our place, and we expect a big crowd.”

Both teams need this game to have a shot at the district title.

“The Saints line up in a wishbone, but not the old Oklahoma option offense; they are a power running team,” Lape explained.

The Saints feature two quality running backs, including one of the best runners in the state.

On defense, Denver uses a 4-4, emphasizing gap control and pursuing the ball. Lape said, “I kind of expect them to use the blitz a bit against us.” Game time is 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and fans can expect the team to sing the new NFV fight song after the game.
