Taking three games each from West Central and Clayton Ridge last week, the Lady Warrior volleyball team grabbed two UIC wins and a third-place finish at the Decorah tournament on Saturday.

Hitting the road to West Central on Tuesday, Sept. 24, the SW volleyball team claimed victory in game one rather handily, 25-13.

Game two was more of a challenge as the Blue Devils led, 3-1, early, but South Winn pulled out to a 15-9 advantage. Long volleys and serving troubles hindered the Warriors, allowing West Central to regain a 22-21 lead. A Micole Lansing kill inched South Winn back into the game and a Becca Franzen block knotted the score, 23-23. After taking control once again, Lexie Warth put the nail in the coffin with a slam to give SW the 25-23 victory.

Rommes’ kickoff return sets stage for SW 58-14 win

Entering week five, the hunger for the district crown and a possible state championship appearance is still burning for the South Winn football team after clobbering St. Ansgar, 58-14, at home on Friday.

“I thought we did a nice job defending St Ansgar's rushing attack most of the night,” complimented SW coach Jason Ohrt. “I was very impressed how our linebackers played.  Ryan Hageman, Tyler Numedahl, Ben Meyer and Adam Lensing continue to get better every week.”

The Warriors had a perfect second wedge on the opening kickoff to Jordan Rommes that allowed him to return the pigskin 96 yards for SW’s first TD of the night.

That momentum carried into the first defensive series for the Warriors as the Saints were forced to punt from their own 49-yard line.

North Fayette Valley football put on a dominant performance Friday, Sept. 27, in Parkersburg. The TigerHawks crushed one of the most storied football programs in the state on its home field in a 56-14 rout.

To be fair, A-P was missing its starting QB and running back due to injuries. However, the way the TigerHawks played, it may not have made much difference.

As NFV head coach Bob Lape stated, “Our roles are identically reversed from last year when we were struggling a bit and they had quality experience. This year we have the quality experience and they are struggling.”

The North Fayette Valley cross country teams continued their string of strong performances last week, as the 10 varsity scorers earned a total of seven medals in the Waukon Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The boys placed fourth among the nine full teams that competed; there were runners from 11 schools at the event. The TigerHawks were just five points behind a good squad from Central/Elkader.

Danny Halva and Devon Monnahan led the NFV pack, earning medals for coming in third and sixth, respectively.

Head coach Cassie Gruman stated, “They remained with the top pack for two-thirds of the race before moving up in the final mile to earn their medals.”

The North Fayette Valley volleyball team won a pair of conference games last week.

Saturday, it made a two-hour trip to the South Tama Tournament where they went 1-2, beating North Tama.

Tuesday, Sept. 24, the TigerHawks travelled to Guttenberg to meet the Eagles. NFV won, 17-25, 26-24, 25-19, and 25-21.

Once again, the TigerHawks started the first match slowly. “We’ve addressed our slow starts with the girls, but continued to do it again in this game,” stated head coach Bruce Ehler.

After dropping the game, NFV came out hot in game two, leading 23-15 until an Eagle server got redhot. She served eight straight to tie the game.

Herman Lenz - To the Editor

To the editor:

The root cause of “climate change and global warming caused by human activity” is because of the growing human population, and one person today does more pollution of every kind than 100 people did 150 years ago.

How many gallons of gasoline, heating fuel, motor vehicles, tires, electricity, electronic equipment, spray cans, bottles, and plastic bags will one person go through in a lifetime?

But the Radical Religious Extremists (RRE’s) deny the “human activity” has anything to do with such damage to the environment, because if they had to admit to such, then they would have to admit that birth control and Planned Parenthood are necessary, but they have their minds shut off to reason, reality, and evidence.
