After a long holiday break, the Warrior wrestlers returned to the mat Saturday evening in a dual tournament at Crestwood and claimed a slim victory over Waukon, 42-36.

South Winn also faced Crestwood, New Hampton, and Fillmore Central/Lanesboro/Mabel-Canton but struggled to get points on the board with its small squad.

Sophomore Landers Kuboushek (182) and senior Chris Brincks (195) highlighted the Warrior matmen with 3-1 records in the dual with both losing by decision against their respective Fillmore Central/Lanesboro/Mabel-Canton opponents.

The Warriors were hoping to return to the hardwood with tenacity after the holiday break on Friday as they traveled to Decorah, but passing troubles and the inability to stop the Vikings from knocking down treys sidetracked SW.

It was a tight first quarter between the two teams that fell in Decorah’s favor, 15-14, thanks to a trio of three-point shots that kept the Vikings in control of the nonconference tussle.
