SW girls second at Central

SW girls second at Central

Almost all of South Winn’s cross country runners ran their fastest times of the season Thursday at Central Elkader, earning the girls’ team a second-place finish to host Central.

“Those that did not run their fastest times were quite close.  That is what we are looking for at this time of year – improvement and kids challenging themselves,” said coach Kevin Kearney.

Speed. Strength. Determination. The Warrior football team has it all, and Friday night it took the fight to Class 2A’s third-ranked New Hampton and came out on top, 18-7.

“We were able to match New Hampton’s physical style of play for four quarters, and our secondary limited them to 78 yards passing on 23 attempts,” praised SW coach Jason Ohrt. “Our run defense held a pretty solid running attack in check all night.”

South Winn sprinted out to a 10-4 lead in game one and allowed the Bulldogs to inch back into the contest before putting it away.
