One of the most important aspects of the holiday season lies within the art of giving.

Area students at DeSales School and South Winneshiek Elementary and Middle School are doing their part to keep up with the spirit of giving by hosting fundraisers and promoting a helping organization.

One organization, which first came to South Winneshiek Community School District in 2012, is Project Piece.

Project Piece is a nonprofit organization with the goal of helping families in the district get a hand up, as opposed to a hand out.

Hawkeye man set to transform elementary building

A Hawkeye businessman is anticipating the transformation of the former Hawkeye Elementary into an educational, work, and recreational facility that will not only benefit this small Fayette County community, but the entire region.

As earlier reported, the North Fayette Board of Directors recently approved the sale of the building and grounds to CV Research Labs at a cost of $25,000.

Bibek Sahu, owner of the Hawkeye-based business, said his proposal is to transform the former elementary into a teaching and work center. It could serve as a telecommunicator/co-working space and community recreation center. It will also provide administrative office space for CV Research Labs.
