Refinancing to save school district $315,000

Refinancing to save school district $315,000

Due to refinancing, North Fayette could save an estimated $315,000 on its athletic field project, which was completed in 2008. The school’s board of directors approved the refinancing option during its regular board meeting on Monday.

Currently, the school district is paying over 4 percent interest on its School Infrastructure Local Option Sales and Service (SILO) Tax revenue bond. It would be paying $925,000 on principal and an additional $168,605 in interest through June 2022. The school originally borrowed $1.15 million for the project.

Under the new proposal, the school district would pay an estimated 2.75 percent interest. The refinancing would include paying approximately $705,000 on principal and an additional $74,450 in interest. Superintendent Duane Willhite noted that this option would also reduce the term of the bond by one year.

The mother of four grown children is grandmother to six and great-grandma to two.

Yet at the age of 81, she's discovered a hidden talent for art, whether it's sketching or working with watercolors.

It's a 'matter' of giving

Knowing that providing youth a role model and a friend is so important, mentoring programs throughout Fayette County are inviting residents to join in celebrating their mission during National Mentoring Month in February.

This year’s theme “Be someone who matters to someone who matters” will be plastered all over the United States. The 14th annual celebration raises awareness of mentoring in formal and informal ways alike  in hopes of adding more mentors, youth, and supporters to the mentoring mission.

After Tuesday’s (Jan. 6) game against Clayton Ridge was postponed, the North Fayette girls’ basketball team managed to play Friday’s home game against Ed-Co.

Rebecca Miller led the TigerHawks with 11 points and came within a rebound of a double-double after garnering nine caroms.

However, the girls were as cold shooting as the recent weather, dropping a 35-27 contest.
