Warriors compete in UIC Indoor
The South Winneshiek boys’ and girls’ track teams competed at the UIC Indoor Meet on Monday, March 16, at Luther College in Decorah.
The boys’ squad put together a solid outing in both running and field events.
Ben Meyer, with 18’8” and Nathan Ward with 18’6” finished second and third, respectively, in the long jump.
Junior Mitch Herold filled in nicely for 2014 State qualifier Carson Lensing, placing eighth in the shot put.
The Warriors swept the high jump event, placing first and second with stellar performances from Jordan Rommes, clearing 6’0”, and junior Treyton Jacobsen, clearing 5’6”.
Rommes and Jacobsen also took top honors in the 55-meter dash, tying for first with times of 6.91.
The 4x200 relay team of Meyer, Jacobsen, Herold, and Rommes recorded the fastest time at 1:37.16.
South Winn’s 4x400 team of Meyer, Ward, Herold, and Rommes also set the high mark for the evening, recording a time of 3:40.28.
In the 1600 medley, Alex Holthaus, Herold, Ward, and Matthew Holthaus ran a career-best 4:07.77 to take home second place.
The South Winn girls also had an impressive early-season outing, with strong performances from senior leadership as well as younger competitors.
Senior Lexie Warth took second in the high jump, clearing 4’6”. Teammate Amber Brincks was able to clear 4’4”, which was good enough for sixth place. Warth also took home second place in the long jump with a mark of 15’9”.
