Rain doesn't stop triathlon

A little rain did not stop the Parks & Rec Eighth Annual West Union Triathlon Sunday at the Aquatic Center.
A steady rain fell until early in the morning, but there was only light rain falling when the race kicked off at 8 a.m. The showers stopped for most of the race before returning later in the event, but they did not turn into thunder and lightning until after the all of the participants had left.
The runners, bikers, and swimmers did not seem to mind. As Matt Appler said afterwards, “Once you got a little wet, it wasn’t bad. I was just glad that it wasn’t hot and muggy.”
A week before the race, only 39 people had registered, but 51 applications poured in the final week to bring the total number of participants to 90.
