West Union begins enforcing three ordinances

West Union begins enforcing three ordinances

The City of West Union will begin to more strictly enforce three specific city ordinances immediately.

Curfew

The first is a curfew that doesn’t allow for youth under the age of 18 to be out on city streets from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. City Administrator Teresa Pape noted that the curfew has been on the books for well over 30 years, but enforcement has become lax at times. Due to recent complaints of petty thefts, such as lawn ornaments and others things being taken from residents houses and later found down the block, the city's police force will immediately begin to enforce the curfew. It has also been noted that packages have gone missing.

Prairie View Management Inc. is celebrating its 30th anniversary by giving back to its community during the rest of 2016.

“To celebrate our 30th anniversary, we want to make this ‘our year of giving back,’” said Sylvia Mork, Prairie View Residential Care Facility administrator.

Prairie View’s story begins in 1864 in Illyria Township, where those in need of special care were placed in residence at what was called the Fayette County Farm and Care Facility.

NICC through the eyes of its president, Dr. Liang Chee Wee

Northeast Iowa Community Center (NICC) in Calmar is excited to celebrate its 50-year anniversary this year. School president Dr. Liang Chee Wee, standing with student Manuel Guzmán, has been with the college “through the years” after first joining NICC as a provost in 2007 and then becoming president in 2011. For Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC), it all started in 1966 under the name of Area One Vocational-Technical School. Over the years, the school has experienced many changes, including two name changes and eight different presidents.

It was in 2007 that current president Dr. Liang Chee Wee first stepped foot on campus. After a 15-year tenure at nearby Luther College, which included spending time as a professor, department chair, and associate dean, Wee became the Calmar Campus provost.
