Larson named Master Editor-Publisher at 2017 INA Banquet

LeAnn Larson, the veteran leader of The Fayette County Union and Fayette Publishing, was honored with the Master Editor-Publisher Award at the 2017 Iowa Newspaper Association (INA) Convention on Friday, Feb. 3, in Des Moines.

An award 36 years in the making, Larson has helped bring local news and advertising to life for the people of West Union and the surrounding communities.

The Warrior boys’ basketball team kicked off the week by traveling to Monona Tuesday, Jan. 24, for a contest with the MFL/MarMac Bulldogs.

The Warriors were able to keep pace with the veteran Bulldogs early, as South Winn trailed by only four at the conclusion of the first quarter.

Shirley Ann Brainard, 87, of Postville, Iowa died Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society, Postville, Iowa. Shirley Ann was born on April 28, 1929 to Nanfred Johannes and Sylvia Jeanette (Forde) Sand. She attended Ossian Schools and graduated in 1947. After graduation Shirley took summer classes at Luther College. She was a substitute teacher at a country school the fall of 1947 and worked at Northern Engraving in Waukon, Iowa from 1971 until her retirement in 1994.

Urban J. Moser, 84, of Oelwein, Iowa, died on Monday evening, January 23, 2017 at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein.

Mass of Christian Burial:  10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein with Rev. Wayne J. Droessler, Deacon Jim Patera & Deacon Rick Lynch officiating.

 

Visitation:  3:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. on Saturday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein.

Rosary Service:  4:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.

Parish Scripture Service:  6:30 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.

Interment:  Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa with a Military Graveside Service.

A Memorial Fund has been established.
