You won’t want to miss West Central’s production of the fantasy-comedy “Once Upon a Mattress,” created by Marshall Barer, Jay Thompson, and Dean Fuller, at 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Nov. 9-10, in the West Central auditorium.
“It is a more adult version of ‘The Princess and the Pea,’” said Matthew Molumby, the play’s director. “The Queen doesn’t want her son to get married. She has a lot of tests that every princess fails because they are impossible. One of them is to sleep on a bed of 20 mattresses with a pea under it. If a princess can feel the pea and not have a good night’s sleep, then she can marry Prince Dauntless. The Queen has banned marriages until a princess can pass the test, and in this fantasy world, if you aren’t married, you aren’t allowed to have children. Princess Winnifred could be the kingdom’s last hope. Will she complete the test? You’ll just have to find out for yourself!
