Services today at St. Peter in Eldorado

Funeral services for Eileen A. Meyer, 78, of West Union will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado with the Rev. Ginny Olson officiating.

Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery.

Visitation was set for Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home in West Union, which is handling the arrangements.

Eileen died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union.

Eileen Ardath (Pape) Meyer was born May 18, 1934, in Dover Township, West Union, to Sam and Lillie (Osmundson) Pape.

She was raised on the family farm two miles east of Eldorado.

Eileen was baptized June 10, 1934, and confirmed on March 21, 1948, both at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado.

She attended Dover No. 3 country school and graduated from West Union High School in 1952.

Following graduation Eileen worked as a secretary to the principal at the high school in West Union.

On June 12, 1954, she wed Kenneth Lewis Meyer in Eldorado. They became the parents of two children.

Kenny and Eileen lived in Ft. Sill, Okla., until May 1955 while Kenny was in the Army.

The couple then farmed for 34 years on Eileen’s family farm. They were the fourth generation to live on the farm. In 1984 they were honored as Fayette County Distinguished Dairymen.

In 1989 they moved to West Union.

Eileen was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school, served on various committees, and was an active member of WELCA.

She loved her family, enjoyed spending time with her relatives and keeping up with all their activities. She also liked traveling, as well as cooking (as anyone who enjoyed it would agree).

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law, William and Charlotte Meyer; and a brother-in-law, Herbert Meyer.

In addition to her husband, Kenny, of West Union, Eileen is survived by two children, Sheryl Ann Meyer and Steven Kenneth Meyer; four grandchildren, Cory (Jeanessa) Meyer of West Union, Dustin (Jolene) Meyer of Eagan, Minn., Nathan (Angie) Meyer of Postville, Darci (Albert) Cline of West Union; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Conley (Vickie) Meyer of West Union and Duane Meyer of Decorah; two sisters-in-law, Marlys (Kerwin) Anderson of West Union and Kathryn Meyer of Ossian; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
