“It’s a complete compro-mise,” said North Fayette board member Randy Tope. Valley board member Stacy Cummings added, “We need to unite the stu-dents, and a whole new color palette is optimal.” After pausing to exam-ine the wishes of the North Fayette and Valley students, the respective school boards met in a joint work session on Tuesday, Feb. 19, voting unanimously to adopt the school’s offi cial colors as black, Columbia blue, and silver, with no dominant color. Valley school board pres-ident Mark Howard opened the work session saying thank you to the ad hoc committee, athletic direc-tors, and students for their hard work in narrowing the color choices to two. Amidst the discussion Roy Guenther commented that the North Fayette board members all fell in line with the black, Columbia blue, and silver combination. “As we move ahead, I think there will be tremen-dous support,” said Guen-ther. Valley board member Tim Orr raised the question regarding the cost of new uniforms once the colors have been adopted. NF Superintendent Duane Willhite addressed the issue, saying, “North Fayette has pledged $20,000, as has our booster club. I be-lieve the Valley Booster Club is willing to donate $20,000, which will cover the cost of replacing all the varsity ath-letic uniforms.” He added that the esti-mated $60,000 in uniform costs does not cover new band uniforms or choir robes. In order to raise funds to possibly assist in covering the cost of new athletic uni-forms, Valley board member Stacy Cummings questioned auctioning the current uni-forms off. Although it is not out of the question, there has been no indication of whether the two schools may explore that avenue or not.
