Services held for Ronnie Kent, 65
Funeral services for Ronald W. Kent, 65, of Hawkeye were held Thursday, Feb. 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with the Rev. David R. Nelson officiating.
Inurnment followed at Hawkeye Cemetery with military honors conducted by Arnold-Rogers American Legion Post 312 of Hawkeye.
S.K. Rogers Funeral Home in Sumner was in charge of the arrangements.
Ronald died of pancreatic cancer on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at his home in rural Hawkeye.
Ronald William “Ronnie” Kent was born Sept. 23, 1947, in Oelwein to Kenneth and Marcille (Schroeder) Kent.
He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye.
He graduated in 1965 from North High School in West Union.
Ronnie proudly served his country from 1967 to 1969; he was drafted during the Vietnam War and served in Korea.
After being discharged from the service, he worked in the construction business and joined his father in running the family farm.
On Feb. 6, 1982, Ronnie married Kay Pleggenkuhle at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. The couple moved to Kay’s family farm near Hawkeye, where they farmed and raised hogs.
Ronnie was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan, enjoyed baseball, golfing, playing cards, and reading the Des Moines Register.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye.
Ronnie also served on the Hawkeye Co-op Board of Directors, the Hawkeye Telephone Board of Directors, and was a Bethel Township trustee.
He will forever be remembered for his leadership, business mind, and sense of humor.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Kent Jr.; a brother, Brian Kent; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He is survived by his mother, Marcille Kent of Hawkeye; his wife, Kay, of Hawkeye; two daughters, Suzanne (Craig) Kent-Thomas of Fayette and Marcia Kent of Ankeny; five grandchildren, Kaylin, Hunter, Annika, Gracie and William; three sisters, Kathleen Baade of Fort Dodge, Karen (Randy) Wilbur of Oelwein, and Kay (Mike) Meyer of Oelwein; several nieces and nephews.
