South Winn MS students take to stage

Take all the Brothers Grimm characters – children, ogres, witches, dwarfs, animals, fairies, giants – and cast them into the blender of the stage. Then drink deeply of the resulting elixir. A bizarre, boisterous ballyhoo everyone should see!

South Winn Middle School will present “Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” at 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6, in the high school auditorium.

Tickets will be available at the door for adults ($3) and $2 for students.

The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are turned on their heads in this fast-paced, rollicking ride as two naughty narrators and 13 saucy actors attempt to combine all 209 stories ranging from classics like “Snow White,” “Cinderella,” and “Hansel and Gretel” to more bizarre, obscure stories like “The Devil's Grandmother” and “The Girl Without Hands.”

The “Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon,” written by Don Zolidis (prolific playwright, screenwriter, and professor of playwriting at Ursinus College just outside of Philadelphia), features an all-youth cast presenting tales collected by the Grimm Brothers in a contemporary, screwball, irreverent style.

Told in a similar style to the Reduced Shakespeare Company, the “Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” is a madcap romp through the beloved (and not-so-beloved) stories everyone knows so well. Two sparring narrators attempt to combine fairy tales into one impossibly complicated storyline in this hilarious theatrical event.
