Fox services held Monday in Fayette

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Fox, 86, of Oelwein, formerly of Randalia, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Oelwein Healthcare Center in Oelwein.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 3, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette.

Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, rural Westgate.

Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, handled the arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth (Woods) Fox was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Delaware County to John and Sadie (Burke) Woods.

She graduated from Randalia High School in 1945.

On Nov. 29, 1945, Betty and Sheldon Fox were married at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fayette. 

Betty was a farm wife and a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing and playing cards.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a daughter, Debra Nefzger; a great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Don Woods and Paul Woods.

Betty is survived by her husband, Sheldon, of Oelwein, four daughters, Pat (Veryl) Burghardt of Sumner, Peg (Keith) Schlatter of Hawkeye, Becky Fox of Cedar Rapids, and Bobbie Fox of Cedar Falls; a son-in-law, Jim (Cindy) Nefzger of Lansing; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Henry of Fayette; three brothers, Tom Woods of Oelwein, Jim Woods of Cedar Rapids, and Leo Woods of Dyersville.

A memorial fund has been established in Betty’s name.
