Services held at St. Peter, Eldorado

Funeral services for Steven K. Meyer, 54, of Eldorado were held Friday, May 31, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado with the Rev. Ginny Olson officiating.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home, West Union, was in charge of the arrangements.

Steve died of natural causes on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at his family farm, where he resided his entire life.

Steven Kenneth Meyer, son of Kenneth L. and Eileen A. (Pape) Meyer, was born June 29, 1958, in West Union.

He was baptized on July 20, 1958, and confirmed on March 26, 1972, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado.

He graduated from North High School in West Union in 1976.

On Oct. 1, 1977, Steve was united in marriage with Jody Vagts at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Eldorado. To this union, four children were born. The couple were later divorced.

Steve was the fifth generation on the family farm, where he farmed with his parents for several years. He later worked at Semex as a sales representative.

With a very sharp eye for cattle, Steve’s passion was raising and showing registered Holsteins. He was awarded the American Farmer Degree through FFA.  In 1989, he was named Fayette County Outstanding Young Dairyman, and he was later named Fayette County Distinguished Dairyman. He was most proud to be an owner and breeder of a blue-ribbon supreme champion.

Steve enjoyed helping his children and grandchildren tie up calves and show cattle.

He also delighted in watching his children’s school activities, including Luther League softball, wrestling, football, cheerleading, and their involvement in FFA. He loved to spend time fishing and mushroom hunting, especially with his grandchildren.

Preceding Steve in death were his mother, Eileen A. Meyer on Feb. 16, 2013; his maternal grandparents, Sam and Lillie Pape; his paternal grandparents, Bill and Charlotte Meyer; and a daughter-in-law, Robyn A. Meyer.

Survivors include his father, Kenneth Meyer of West Union; four children, Cory (Jeanessa) Meyer of Eldorado, Dustin (Jolene) Meyer of Eagan, Minn., Nathan (Angie) Meyer of Postville, and Darci (Albert) Cline of West Union; nine grandchildren, Kasydi and Braelyn Meyer and Alexis Scholbrock, Jace and Brinley Meyer, Kade and Hallie Meyer, and Noah and Hunter Cline; a sister, Sheryl Meyer; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
