Dedor services held Tuesday in Fredericksburg

Arthur H. Dedor, 98, of Fredericksburg died Thursday evening, June 6, 2013, at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 11, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg, with Pastor Ronnie Koch presiding. 

Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery. 

Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Henry Dedor was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Tripoli to George and Mary  (Krueger) Dedor. 

At a young age, Arthur and his family moved to Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., where Arthur received his education in rural country schools. The family later moved back to Iowa to live in the Sumner area. 

Arthur met his future wife at Walther League, and on Dec. 26, 1939, he married Leona Gitch at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. To this union three daughters were born. 

The couple initially farmed on rented land, but in 1957 they purchased their own farm located four miles east of Fredericksburg. 

They retired into town and built their home in 1977.

The couple loved to travel. Arthur enjoyed car rides to check the crops, fishing, and eating at all the local restaurants. He always made time for family vacations. In 2000, he was named the “Grand Dairyman” for the annual Fredericksburg Dairy Days.

After Leona’s death on June 17, 1999, Arthur continued to live in their home until he became a resident of Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare on June 14, 2011. 

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edwin Dedor and Ernest Dedor; and a sister, Meta Moore.

Survivors include three daughters, Mildred (Ty) Burger and Bernice (Darwyn) Leisinger, both of Waterloo, and Virginia Dedor of Elgin; three grandchildren, Tyrone (Jennifer) Burger of Runnells, Tina Leisinger of Waverly, Amy Leisinger of Lombard, Ill.; a sister, Edith (Robert) Gersonde of Sumner; and a sister-in-law, Carmen Dedor of Mason City.
