Funeral Mass at Holy Name set for Saturday

Funeral services for Therese Kaiser, 76, of West Union will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union with the Reverend Dale Rausch officiating.

Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, rural West Union. 

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, with a rosary service starting at 4 p.m., at Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home in West Union, which is handling the arrangements.

Therese died peacefully Friday, June 28, 2013, in Eldridge, surrounded by her children. 

Eloise “Therese” (McDonald) Kaiser was born June 22, 1937, to Thomas and Katherine (Maher) McDonald in Imogene. 

She graduated from St. Patrick’s Academy Catholic School in Imogene in 1955. Therese earned a degree in registered nursing from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Council Bluffs in 1958.

On Dec. 27, 1961, she was united in marriage with Paul Lee Kaiser at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Council Bluffs. To this union, four children were born. Therese began a lengthy nursing career at Palmer Memorial Hospital in 1962. She spent the next 45 years serving the community of West Union and Fayette County, caring for the young, adults, and the elderly. She spent those years working in the hospital, the clinic, and eventually as a visiting home healthcare nurse to the elderly of Fayette County.

In addition to actively following all of her grandchildren’s activities, Therese also loved spending time with Paul, her husband of 51 years, in a variety of ways, including playing golf and cards and going to the gambling boat.

Therese was an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union. 

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Paul, on March 11, 2013; a grandson, Joey; a brother, Emmett; two brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; and two nephews.

Therese is survived by her four children, Kathie (Chris) Lampe of Bellevue, Marty (Marianne) Kaiser of Rockton, Ill., Peggy (Brent) Ohl of Eldridge, and Joe (Francesca) Kaiser of Ely; eight grandchildren, Matt Lampe, Sam Lampe, Anna Lampe, Sarah Lampe, Nathan Kaiser, Rachel Kaiser, Tom Ohl, and Charlie Ohl; and four siblings, Katherine Laughlin, Jim McDonald, John (Marge) McDonald, and Eleanor (Frank) Eller.
