159th Clayton County Fair now open

 

Don't miss out on the 158th Annual Clayton County Fair which began yesterday (Tuesday, July 30). This year's fair will provide all the summer fun that fairgoers are used to, plus a lineup of great entertainment and activities. 

Today (Wednesday) kicks off bright and early with the 9 a.m. Horse Show. The Free Beef Meal will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m.  with the flag-raising and Fair Queen pageant beginning at 6:30 p.m. The 4-H Style Show and Share the Fun Show close out the night at 7 p.m. 

Activities on Thursday include the 12:30 p.m. Rabbit Show, 1:30 p.m. Dog Show, and Open Class Foods Department Bake Sale at 3 p.m. The carnival opens at 6 p.m. Thursday, with the main event of Confederate Railroad performing at 7 p.m. in the grandstands. 

A teen dance will end the evening from 10 p.m. to midnight Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. 

Start the weekend out right by visiting the fair at 8:30 a.m. for the Poultry Show and 9:30 a.m. for the Meat Goat Show. The Bucket Bottle Calf judging will be held at 10 a.m., and the Sheep Show starts at 11 a.m. The afternoon includes a 2 p.m. Beef Heifer Show, bingo from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Market Beef Show at 5:30 p.m. and Kids’ Night on the midway with armbands from 6 to 10 p.m. Don't miss American country music artist John Michael Montgomery in the grandstand at 8:30 p.m.  

Saturday, Aug. 3, includes the Dairy Show at 8:30 a.m., the Swine Show at 9 a.m., a Kiddie Tractor Pull at 11 a.m., Demolition Derby at 1 p.m., Dairy Goat Show at 4 p.m., bingo from 3 to 7 p.m., and Kids' Day on the midway from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Clayton County Bull Bash with CC Bucking Bulls starts at 7 p.m. in the grandstands. 

Sunday activities kick off at 10 a.m. with the Dairy and Livestock Judging contest. An 11 a.m. Truck and Tractor Pull will be held along with a Kiddie Calf Show at noon. Kids can enjoy another wristband day on the midway from 1 to 5 p.m. with Youth Olympics at 2:30 p.m. Bingo runs from 3 to 7 p.m. with a performance from classic modern rock band Challenger in the grandstands at 6 p.m. 

Closing out the annual fair will be the Monday, Aug. 5, Livestock Auction to begin at 9 a.m.

Admission to the fair is free for kids 11 and under. Anyone over age 12 can pay a daily ticket cost of $5 on Wednesday, $10 on Thursday and Sunday, and $15 on Friday and Saturday. A season ticket is also available for $30. Ticket prices include free parking, admission to all exhibits, entertainment and special events of the day.
