South Winn school board members learned Monday evening that due to the reseeding of grass on the renovated football field, the team’s opening home game(s) may be moved to Upper Iowa University in Fayette.

“The first home game is Sept. 13, and it will be real close to being ready but not a given,” said Superintendent Chris Hoover.

He went on to explain that he has been in contact with UIU, and the college has agreed to let South Winn utilize its facilities if necessary at the cost of $500 to the district. South Winn would need to provide workers for the gates and would retain the admission, but UIU would handle all concessions and receive those monies.

The entire project is slated to be complete in the next few weeks with only the synthetic spray on the track and retaining wall railing on the home side of the field needing completion.

Board members approved the final change order for $1,650 for the home side retaining wall, rock shoulder cleanup and railing changes as presented.

Hoover asked board members for ideas on where to place the 14’ x 24’ greenhouse the South Winn FFA chapter plans to purchase with funds from a grant received. Options that may be explored include the west parking lot and the southeast corner of the school block where the former weightroom was located.

In other business, the board:

• Approved the Senior Year Plus Program.

• Approved the health consortium contract with NICC for 2014-15.

• Approved the auto consortium contract with NICC for 2014-15.

• Approved a 28E sharing agreement with Turkey Valley for ELP teacher Kristin Kriener.

• Approved Citizens Savings Bank, Luana Savings Bank, and Wells Fargo as additional depositories.

• Approved Mary Recker and Barb Schwamman as Level I and Level II investigators, respectively.

The next regular meeting of the South Winn school board will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the Calmar board room.
