North Fayette Valley has hired a new head coach for girls’ basketball. The onus of leading the first TigerHawk team in history falls upon Sean Leonard. He will also be a PE and health teacher in the district.

The new headman is a graduate of Turkey Valley (2005) and UNI.

For the last two years he has been the head baseball coach at Hudson. He was also the Pirates’ assistant boys’ basketball coach for four seasons. Those four teams won four, 11, 15 and 18 games, respectively, and last year won conference and district titles.

His other coaching experience includes five years as an assistant baseball coach to Dan Stepan at TV, and one season each at AGWSR and Jesup as an assistant middle school boys’ basketball coach.

Leonard stated, “I am thrilled and proud to be joining such a great community and school district.”

As for coaching style, th new TigerHawk said, “I want to play as fast and as hard as possible. I like to press on defense and push the ball offensively.”

“However, a lot of what we do will depend upon what group of five we have on the floor, so you will probably see several tempo changes throughout a game.”

According to Leonard, “At this point not knowing our identity is the hardest part, so the season will be a work in progress. It will take until Christmas break to get a good idea of who we really are and what we can and can’t do.

“At this point effort and attitude will be my main focus. All I know for sure is that we will play hard.”
