Jim Monroe memorial service set for Aug. 27

A memorial service for Jim Monroe will be held Aug. 27 at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union. There will be a 9:30 a.m. wake and a 10:30 a.m. service.

James “Jim” Monroe was born Feb. 9, 1926, at Castalia, Ia. He passed away Aug. 16, 2013 with his loving family around him at the age of 87 years and 6 mo. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Castalia. He attended country school near his home. He went to high School one yr. He drove truck and semi for Watters of Luana and other companies.

On Oct. 7, 1951 he married Marjorie Jacobson of WU. To this union 4 daughters were born, Connie, Barb, Becky and Cindy.

Jim hauled milk for 4 yrs. then the couple went farming. In 1967 they moved to West Union and started in the carpentering business and Marge helped him until 2005 when his health started to fail. Both worked hard and raised their family. Jim’s hobbies were wood working and fishing and just plain hard work. They built several homes and a lot of remodeling. Jim belongs to Zion Lutheran Church of WU. They have 10 grandchildren, Gary Jr., Tyler, Renae, Nicki, Jesse, Tim, Chris, Dusty, Ben and Alex, and 8 great grandchildren, Adison, McKanna, Brooklyn, Brittney, Madison, Logan, Jamison and Jacob. 2 step great granddaughters Alivia and Adessa.

He is survived by his loving wife Marge and his children Connie (Gary) Rothmeyer, Barb (Ron) Schuchman, Becky Hanson, and Cindy Grimes (and friend Art Willard), his grandchildren Gary Rothmeyer, Tyler (Megan) Rothmeyer, Renae Rothmeyer, Nicki (Scott) Barton, Jesse (Emilee) Schuchman, Tim (Ashly) Hanson, Chris (Andee) Hanson, Dusty (Bridget) Hanson, Ben and Alex Grimes, one brother Henry J. Monroe and a very good friend Betty Deal, and all his nieces, nephews and a lot of good friends and relatives. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nettie, sister in law Larraine, brother Ed and Virginia, 6 siblings and a grandson Korey Rothmeyer.

He will be loved and missed forever by all who knew him.
