Each year Northeast Iowa Community College recognizes not only staff who have made an impact on campus, but alumni who have contributed greatly to the success of their respective communities.

Calmar’s Tami Brincks received the phone call she never expected to get several weeks ago from the NICC Foundation, informing her that on Monday, Oct. 21, she will be one of three members inducted into the NICC Hall of Fame.

“I didn’t even know what to say, I was so surprised,” noted Tami.

“She has always displayed a high degree of integrity, responsibility, and ambition in her life in general. She is definitely a leader rather than a follower,” said Gail Heying, one of those who nominated Brincks for the award.

A 1992 South Winn graduate, Tami always knew that she would attend NICC because it felt like family.

“My mom (Carol Cameron) had worked there for many years. It wasn’t a matter of where I wanted to go to college, but what studies I wanted to take,” said Brincks.

After graduating from NICC in the Computer Applications Technician program in 1993, Tami worked in graphic design at Gallery of Tops for one year, and then joined the Sweet Computer family as an administrative assistant.

Over the years and through several business acquisitions of the company, Tami has worked her way through administrative assistant and sales support positions into her current role as a Human Resources Business Partner at Tri-Tech Software Systems in Decorah.

She returned to NICC when she was in need of more classes and received her certificate as a “Professional in Human Resources.”

The Tri-Tech company develops software for municipal and state public safety and emergency medical services personnel nationwide.

She is responsible for human resources at the company’s Decorah site, as well as the Tri-Tech Customer Service team in the U.S.

In her position, she is responsible for HR functions for approximately 80 team members within Tri-Tech. Tami is required to travel to the various locations of Tri-Tech to assist in training, interviews, and take part in team-building exercises in Castle Hayne, N.C., San Diego, Denver, and Marlborough, Mass.

As a NICC alumna, she contributes her expertise to the education, training and career preparation of students by participating in CEO luncheon events; serves as a member with local professionals on the HR Alliance group at the Calmar campus; attends roundtables and provides input on the business programs advisory committee.

“Tami exemplifies, as a NICC alumna, what NICC strives to accomplish for all of our graduates – leadership, dedication, passion, and volunteerism,” said Dr. Wendy Mihm-Herold, who also nominated Brincks for the Hall of Fame.

In 2011, Tami contributed her talents for the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” program as the Audrey Gibbs family’s representative, working to qualify the family for selection. The Gibbs family was selected for the nationally televised home makeover.

In addition, Tami became part of the Larson Construction team, taking on the leadership roles of photographer, behind-the-scenes video team, social media leader, and the football game fundraiser.

Locally, Tami serves as the current president of the Rosary Society at St. Aloysius Church in Calmar.

“My success in my career can be directly attributed to the education I received at NICC on both a professional and personal level. The staff and facility looks at the whole student and goes above and beyond to help him or her succeed both personally and professionally,” said Tami of her experience at NICC both 20 years ago and today.

Brincks, along with fellow alumnus Dr. John Pleggenkuhle of West Union and NICC retiree Darwin Schrage of West Union will be inducted in the Hall of Fame at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, in the Wilder Business Center.
