The North Fayette Valley cross country teams continued their string of strong performances last week, as the 10 varsity scorers earned a total of seven medals in the Waukon Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The boys placed fourth among the nine full teams that competed; there were runners from 11 schools at the event. The TigerHawks were just five points behind a good squad from Central/Elkader.

Danny Halva and Devon Monnahan led the NFV pack, earning medals for coming in third and sixth, respectively.

Head coach Cassie Gruman stated, “They remained with the top pack for two-thirds of the race before moving up in the final mile to earn their medals.”

Also running for the boys were Mitchell Carlson (30th, 20:08); Zach Bruns (33rd, 20:30), and Cameron Amos (40th, 21:04).

“The girls’ pack continues to look strong,” Gruman noted after the TigerHawks won silver. Decorah won handily, but NFV beat UIC contenders Central/Elkader and South Winn to gain second.

Five TigerHawks won medals as Paige Gibson, Natalie Moyle, Megan Feldman, Kortney Pleggenkuhle, and Makayla Kaeppel finished ninth, 13th, 14th, 18th and 20th, respectively.

Also running well were Rebecca Miller and Regan Wolverton, who were 21st and 26th, respectively.
