When rural Ossian resident Loren Hageman saw that his old neighbors, Dave and Pat Lien, had their acreage for sale over a year ago, he knew he didn’t want to see a stranger buy it.

His father, Delbert, had helped the Liens work the land for many years, so when Dave Lien decided to rent out the land, it was to the Hagemans he turned first, and they agreed to keep working the 150 acres.

Seeing the For Sale sign in the Liens’ front yard, Loren had a similar reaction in fall 2012.

He quickly contacted the real estate agent and asked how much it would take to purchase the property, heard the response, and made an offer.
