Carroll G. Turner, 90, of Sumner, and formerly of Arlington, died on Thursday evening, Dec. 26, 2013 at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 30, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard, with Rev. Charis Combs-Lay officiating 

Interment was in Long Grove Cemetery at Maynard.

A Memorial Fund has been established in his name

Carroll George Turner was born on April 28, 1923 at Arco, Minn., the son of George and Ida (Blegan) Turner. 

He graduated from Maynard High School at Maynard, where he was  valedictorian of the class of 1941.

Carroll married Leota B. Cummings on Aug. 23, 1945 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard.  Leota died on Aug. 14, 2009. He later married Mary Lou Nichols Cannon on July 28, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard.

Carroll farmed in the Fayette area for many years.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard, and was a founding member of the Volga River Riders Saddle Club. He enjoyed reading, playing cards and had been a resident of Mercy Living Plus since August 2013.

He is survived by his wife Mary of Sumner; a son, Jon (Annette) Turner of Fayette; a daughter, Kristy (Don) Jirak of Elk Run Heights; three grandchildren, Amy (Jamie) Recker of Oelwein, Brenda (Benji) Michels of Rowley, and Grant Turner of Fayette; three great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jason Recker and Braden Michels.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Leota Turner; a daughter, Karol Ann Daisy and a son, Ivan Dale Turner.
