UIU wrestlers win Chuck Porter Duals

UIU wrestlers win Chuck Porter Duals

Upper Iowa wrestlers won the championship of the Chuck Porter Duals in Galesburg, Ill., on Saturday, Jan. 4. UIU won all four matches on the day, two by shutout.
The Peacocks currently ranked 10th in DII, were a perfect 20-20 before losing the first match of the semifinals against Augustana (Ill.), which is ranked 30th in DIII. UIU went on to win eight of the next nine matches for an easy 33-6 win.
In the championship match against Wabash College, who is 10th in DIII, the Peacocks forged an 18-0 lead on the way to a 36-9 win.
Heavyweight Logan Hopp won all four of his matches by fall. Carl Broghammer, ranked second at 197 for UIU, won three matches by pin and another with a 19-3 technical fall.
Valley Community alum Lincoln Monroe won a pair of matches for Upper Iowa at 133. Monroe won, 6-3, against Calumet College in the second round and won by forfeit in the championship round.
This Saturday and Sunday, UIU will compete in Des Moines at the Iowa Events Center for the prestigious National Duals, where the Peacocks have finished in the top eight in five of the past six years.
