Bertha L. Bark, 96, of rural Maynard, died on Sunday morning, Feb. 9, 2014, at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard with the Rev. James A. Adix officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.

Interment will be in the Long Grove Cemetery in Maynard.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Bertha Lillie Bachle was born on Jan. 28, 1918, at Lamont, the daughter of August and Katharine (Kerchner) Bachle. The family moved to the Maynard area in 1921. She graduated from Maynard High School in the Class of 1935. 

She was united in marriage to Floyd Oliver Bark on Aug. 8, 1943, at Maynard. She was a homemaker and also worked in professional food service at Upper Iowa University at Fayette, Iowa for 23 years, retiring in 1990. 

Bertha was a longtime Randalia and Maynard area resident and had been a resident at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette since Aug. 4, 2010. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Maynard. Bertha enjoyed gardening, canning, flowers, crocheting, quilting and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Floyd O. Bark on August 3, 1966), four brothers, Oscar, Karl, Albert and Henry, a sister in infancy and a son-in-law: Bill Kreutner, Jr.

Bertha is survived by her daughter Linda Kreutner Patterson (Mike) of Sloan; son Larry (Wilda) Bark) of Fayette; four grandchildren, Todd Bark of Mediapolis, Tina Bark of Randalia, Sherri (Jake) Isbell of Garrison, and Shawn (Sara) Kreutner of Vinton; seven great-grandchildren, Kristian and Madeline Bark; Jacob and Kaitlin Isbell; William, Candace and Carly Kreutner; a sister Gertrude Bachle of Fayette; a sister-in-law, Virginia Bachle of Stockton, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.
