Two individuals have declared their candidacy for the empty seat that remains to be filled on the Clermont City Council. Everett Rowland and Randy Wiedenhoff seek to fill the position, which will be decided in a special election on Tuesday, Feb.  25.

Everett Rowland, a lifelong resident of Clermont, is retired from McLeod Telecommunications of Cedar Rapids. He works part-time for Statistical Services of the USDA and Whelan Security. He is active in the community as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer, and is a member of the Clermont Community Club and Clermont Historical Society. Rowland also has previously served as mayor of Clermont and as a member of the Valley school board.

He is running for council to help continue fiscal responsibility and to preserve, protect, and promote the interests of Clermont and its citizens.

Randy Wiedenhoff has lived in Clermont for more than 35 years and is self-employed. He has been involved in the community as an active member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church, a member of the 911 Board, the Emergency Management Board, and the Cemetery Board. He has also served on the Clermont Ambulance Service and the Clermont Fire Department for 30-plus years. He is also currently the fire chief in Clermont.

Wiedenhoff previously served on the city council for eight years. He is seeking the council seat because he wants to see the town move forward in the right direction.

The special election for the last seat on the Clermont City Council will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the fire station in Clermont.
