The North Fayette boys’ track team opened the 2014 season on a high note, taking home six medals from the indoor meet at Wartburg College on Tuesday, May 18. No team scores are kept at this annual meet, but the TigerHawks would have placed high in the 20-team field.

NFV won two gold medals as Danny Halva and Dakota Moore won the 3200 and the shot, respectively. Moore threw the shot 47’04.5” a full 1.5 inches farther than the runner-up from Waverly-Shell Rock.

Halva ran away from the field, finishing over three seconds ahead of the next two runners from Ft. Dodge.

The TigerHawks brought home four bronze medals, two by Derrick Kuehner, who finished third in the 55- and 200-meter dashes.

Both the 4x200 and distance medleys won bronze medals. The foursome of Ben Martin, Josh Guenther, Leif Lujan and Hunter Hoopes finished an eyelash behind runner-up Williamsburg; Ft. Dodge won. In the distance medley, Trey Kuhens, Jared Bouska, Austin DeMuth, and Brody Woods placed third in a close race with Ft. Dodge and runner-up Hudson.

NFV could also be encouraged by a pair of fifth-place finishes and doubling up points in a number of events.
