NFV girls win five golds in 2 meets

Madison Creery roars down the backstretch in the 400-meter dash Friday, April 11, in Dyersville. She finished seventh in the field of 20 girls. Tuesday in Mason City, Creery won bronze in the 100 dash.  In the Union’s recent track preview, Creery’s name was inadvertently left off the list of returning state qualifiers. In fact, the senior stalwart has been to the State Meet three times, running in the 4x100 and 4x200 in 2011, the 4x100 in 2012, and the 200-meter dash in 2013. The North Fayette girls managed to get in two track meets last week, running at Mason City on Tuesday, April 8, and at Dyersville Beckman on Friday.

Between the two meets, TigerHawk thinclads won five gold medals, a silver, and eight bronze.

Tuesday’s Mohawk Invitational in Mason City did not have team results available at press time. The TigerHawks competed against teams from Waterloo East, Waverly-Shell Rock, Charles City, and host Mason City.

Emily Creery and Natalie Moyle won two medals apiece. Creery won gold in the shot and discus, while Moyle won the 3000 and earned bronze in the 400 dash.

Regan Wolverton won the 800 with teammate Becca Miller winning silver.

TigerHawk hurdlers did well at the meet. Jade Daughton brought back gold in the 400, Natalie Fettkether took bronze in the 100, and the shuttle of Julie Breuer, Jessica Koch, Daughton, and Fettkether also won bronze.

The 4x800 of Miller, Kim Rounds, Megan Feldman and Wolverton also won a bronze medal.

Friday, NFV placed fifth in the eight-team Beckman Co-Ed in Dyersville.

Emily Creery brought back two more medals, winning the discus and placing third in the shot.

The TigerHawk relays won three bronze medals as the 4x400, 4x800, and the shuttle hurdle each came in third.
