A state qualifier a year ago, South Winn hurdler Lexie Warth is already showing her determination to make a return trip in 2014. Last week the junior topped her competition at both Jesup and Decorah, adding the long jump title at Decorah to her early 2014 resume as well.

At Jesup

Competing for the first time outdoors, the Lady Warriors faced some stiff competition on Tuesday, April 8, at Jesup. Tallying 61.50 points, South Winn finished sixth as Cascade ran away with the team title with 147 points.

With a time of 16.86, Warth notched her first outdoor win in the 100m hurdles. She also helped the shuttle hurdle quartet of Amber Brincks, Abby Phillips, and Morgan Martin to a fourth-place finish.

Senior Kennidee DeVilbiss crossed the 400m hurdle finish line in 1:11.68, good enough to claim second. She was also a member of the 4x800 with Josie Kriener, Tiana Bullerman, and RaeAnn Klimesh, which finished third in 10:42.

At Decorah

Garnering 85 points, the Lady Warriors managed to finish third versus the stiff Class 3A competition at Decorah on Friday.

Leaping 16’1.25”, Lexie Warth opened her meet with a gold and added to it the 100m hurdle title. Her night didn’t end there as she was a member of the shuttle hurdle relay with Amber Brincks, Kennidee DeVilbiss and Abby Phillips, which finished second. At the end of the evening she joined DeVilbiss, Phillips, and Brittany Shindelar in the 4x100 to claim bronze.

Phillips had an outstanding showing herself, clearing 4’10” in the high jump to claim gold.

The Lady Warriors’ final title came from the 4x800 quartet of Josie Kriener, RaeAnn Klimesh, Tiana Bullerman, and Kelly Kuboushek in 10:57.88.

Kriener, a freshman, also finished second in the 800m run.

Rounding out the top three finishes for South Winn was DeVilbiss in the 400m.

The South Winn girls are scheduled to run again at Decorah on Thursday. On Monday, April 21, the Lady Warriors will travel to Hudson.
