Presenters needed for 'Reading Fiesta'

Valley first-grader Adysen Frieden takes a moment to enjoy her book in the window of the Valley Elementary library. The library is decorated in the style of a Mexican fiesta, which reminds students to keep reading in order to reach their goal each week and earn more candy for their pinata.

Valley Elementary is seeking volunteers to present on a topic of their interest to students as they wrap up their monthlong reading promotion “Reading Fiesta.” Volunteers would present to a group of students every 15 minutes, seeing 8 to 12 groups in all during the afternoon on Friday, May 9.

The event is designed to give students an opportunity to learn from community members on any topic that might be loosely connected to the theme “Reading Fiesta.” Possible topics may include, but are not limited to, performing arts, visual arts, foods, games, geography, culture, history, environment, or anything related to Spanish culture.

Activities will take place, rain or shine, at Valley Elementary School in Elgin. Potential volunteers should be prepared to provide a description of their presentations and indicate whether they would need an indoor or outdoor location.

Interested volunteers should contact Shirleen Reinhardt at sreinhardt@nfv.k12.ia.us or by phone at (563) 426-5891.
