Brincks ties school high jump record

The Warriors had less than ideal conditions in which to compete in last week, but held up to the best of the best as senior Chris Brincks tied the 6’4” high jump school record at Crestwood Thursday.

The 4x100 relay record was also broken recently by the quartet of Jared Schroeder, Treyton Jacobsen, Alex Shatek, and Jordan Rommes at the Drake Relays.

“I’m impressed with how well our guys have competed and performed at these meets,” said coach Scott Conway. “They are not exactly the worst conditions we have competed in, but it certainly is not the best to run, jump, or throw.”

At Clayton Ridge

With 113 points, the South Winn boys’ track team finished second to Cascade (145) at Clayton Ridge on Tuesday, April 29, but had some very decorated men in the medal count.

Perhaps one of the most spectacular showings was the sweep of the first four places in the 800m run by Devin Franzen, Nathan Meyer, Garrett Bohach and Ben Meyer.

The competition among the Warriors was evident in the 200m dash as well, with Alex Shatek claiming gold in 23.82 seconds and Jared Schroeder, bronze; teammates B. Meyer and Treyton Jacobsen finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Schroeder had earned a gold of his own earlier in the evening in the 100m dash over teammate Shatek.

The quartet of Schroeder, Jacobsen, Shatek, and Jordan Rommes combined for a pair of silver medals in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays despite the cold, damp running conditions.

Leaping 19’11” in the long jump, B. Meyer finished in second; Chris Brincks easily claimed victory in the high jump at 5’10”.

Sophomore Carson Lensing has continued to improve throughout the season and landed the shot put 46’8.5” from the ring to grab silver.

At Crestwood

The SW boys took care of business at the Crestwood Co-ed Invitational on Thursday, as they were crowned the meet champions with 158 points.

Schroeder and Shatek took first and second places in the 100m dash once again; Shatek followed it up with a gold in the 200m over teammate Jordan Rommes.

In the 400m dash it was sophomore Mitch Herold who crossed the finish line in second place in 54.56 seconds. Ben Meyer cleared the 400m hurdles in 58.03 to take first place.

Individually Rommes finished second to Brincks’ record-tying high jump of 6’4”. C. Lensing earned himself a pair of silver medals in the shot put and discus with throws of 46’7” and 139’7”.

As has been the case for most of the season, Schroeder, Shatek, Jacobsen, and Rommes broke the tape in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. In the distance medley, Schroeder and Jacobsen combined with Nathan Ward and Nathan Meyer to garner first in 3:48.97.

The 4x800 quartet of Mac Faldet, Franzen, Bohach, and N. Meyer clocked 8:33.99 to finish second.

In the final event of the evening, the 4x400 of Herold, Brincks, B. Meyer and Franzen brought home the Warriors’ final gold in 3:32.95.

Looking toward the postseason, South Winn will compete in the UIC Meet on Thursday beginning at 3:30 p.m. at MFL/MarMac in Monona.
