Janell Jane Davis, 62, of Mason City, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at her home after a long struggle with cancer. She had battled cancer since 1998 and had four total types of cancer and beat three of them.  She was a true fighter and always had a positive attitude. 

A funeral service was held at noon on Saturday, May 31, at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, with the Rev. Dave Lenth officiating.  Interment followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Castalia.

Janell was born on Jan. 13, 1952 in Decorah to Norman Elmer and Ramona Ruth (Preuss) Svendsen.  She was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia and graduated from South Winneshiek Community High School in Calmar.

On Dec. 26, 1970, she was united in marriage to Marc Davis at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. To this union two children were born. When Marc was in the Army they resided in Virginia Beach, Va. Janell and Marc later resided in Plymouth, for 25 years until moving to Mason City in 2001 where she lived for the rest of her life.

Janell worked for over 17 years as a secretary for the State of Iowa at Mohawk Square in Mason City. In her free time she enjoyed shopping, sewing, reading, singing and cooking. She loved listening to music and going for rides with her husband in their convertible.  She also loved spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 43 years, Marc Davis of Mason City; children, Amanda Davis and Andrew (Niky Lewis) Davis of Osage; grandson, Braxtin Gocha of Osage; sisters, Dirinda (Wayne) Benzing of Ossian; Connie (David) Rosendahl of Ventura; and Judith (Allan) Kuboushek of Ridgeway; best friend, Mavis Beenan; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Norman Elmer Svendsen Jr. and sister, Anna Dowell.
