The Warriors would look very impressive early in the UIC Volleyball Tournament, which was held at Starmont High School on Saturday, Oct. 18. The Lady Warriors battled their way to a fourth-place finish in the tournament.

The Big Red faced North Fayette Valley in the opening match. The Warriors won a tight first set, 25-22, before they pulled away with a decisive 25-17 victory in the second set.

South Winn’s second opponent of the day was West Central. The Warriors made quick work of the Blue Devils, winning by scores of 21-15 and 21-11.

The third match of the day would pit the Warriors against the TigerHawks for the second time. The result would be no different, as the SW recorded a 24-11 victory in the opening set and a 21-11 victory to close out the match.

The Warriors had momentum on their side when they took on Lansing-Kee next. SW dominated the Kee-Hawks by winning, 21-3, in the first set and 21-10 in the second.

South Winn would next face Turkey Valley in the tournament, a team the Warriors beat earlier in the season. The Trojans would, however, get the best of the Warriors on this day, winning, 25-19 and 26-24, in two very hard-fought sets.

This loss would end the Warriors’ day, giving them a very respectable fourth-place finish in the tournament.

The Warriors were led by Brittany Shindelar, Lexie Warth, and Amber Brincks, who recorded 28, 27, and 24 kills, respectively, on the day. Becca Franzen led the team in assists, recording a total of 82. Kelsey Hageman and Warth paved the way in the dig category, tallying 40 and 28, respectively.

The Warriors will be in action again at home on Tuesday, Oct. 28, as they host a UIC Conference playoff match against the winner of the Edgewood-Colesburg and Clayton Ridge match.
