Carolyn (Broghammer) Leehy

 

 

Carolyn Eulalia (Broghammer) Leehy passed away peacefully at the age of 89, on March 26, 2016, at the Lyngblomsten Care Center in Saint Paul, Minn.

She was born to Dr. Francis and Margaret (Leahy) Broghammer on April 29, 1926, in Superior, Wisconsin.

Carolyn graduated from West Union High School in 1944. She then studied art at Clark College in Dubuque, Iowa and the Minneapolis School of Art. Later she attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught kindergarten in Vinton, Iowa.

After returning to West Union, she was united in marriage to Joseph Leehy on Dec. 31, 1960, at Holy Name Catholic Church. They eventually settled in Sparta, Wis., where Carolyn worked at Fort McCoy as a management assistant.

Carolyn retired to West Union, where she enjoyed playing bridge, sewing and spending time with family and friends.

Carolyn is survived by her sons, Thomas (Lisa) Leehy, Gurnee, IL and John (Melanie) Leehy, Falcon Heights, MN; grandchildren, Colleen Leehy and Matthew Leehy; sister, Mary Margaret (Phil) Schmidt and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her former husband, Joseph; sister, Anna Louise Smith; twin brother, Charles Broghammer and son, Michael.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union. A visitation was held in the church one hour prior to the service.    

Memorials may be directed to the family, which will be donated to Holy Name Catholic Church.
