     George W. Huffey, 91, of rural Waterville, IA, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at his home.  Memorial services will be held Friday, May 20th at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, IA with Pastor Kim Gates and Pastor Laura Gentry officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday, May 19th at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

     George Waymer Huffey was born November 24, 1924, near Dalby, rural Waterville, IA, the son of Walter Angus and Tilda Boletta (Olson) Huffey. He was baptized and confirmed at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville. George attended school at Center #7 (Dalby Country School), Decorah Elementary School and graduated from Waterville High School in 1942. When he was in school he participated in baseball and basketball. George was a lifetime farmer who started his farming career at the age of eight years old with his grandparents, George and Inger Olson and Uncle Hjalmar Olson on the Century Farm in Center Township during the Depression.  On April 10, 1953, he married Jean Audrey Boess at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, IA. He was a progressive farmer having one of the first bulk milk tanks, round balers, and a minimum tillage offset disk and doing contour strip farming. George sold Vigortone Premix and Crows Seed Corn earning many trips including the Bahamas, Acapulco, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and San Diego.

     George was a former member of Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and was president of the congregation. He attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon, IA, and Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lansing, IA. George enjoyed sports, especially watching his children and grandchildren's activities. He was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye fan going to the Rose Bowl, Peach Bowl, and Orange Bowl. George loved watching the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, horseshoes, fishing, playing cards, and making dill pickles and horseradish for his family and friends.

     Survivors include his wife Jean Huffey of Waterville; his children: Randall Huffey of Waterville, Nancy Huffey of Boscobel, WI, Dawn Huffey of Lansing, IA, Marcia (Bruce Frost) Huffey of Viroqua, WI, Lisa (Barry) Fruechte of New Albin, IA, and Bradley (Eliezer Bermudez) Huffey of Terre Haute, IN; his grandchildren: Amy (Tracy) McCabe, Mia Huffey, Emilie (Travis) Volkman, Isaac (Laura Noll) Bulman, Ayla and Anders Frost, Betsy (Alberto) Whitlach, Bart (Amairani) Fruechte, and Jay and Sophia Fruechte; his great-grandchildren: Jese, Madison, and Chesney McCabe, Bradyn Huffey-Reinhart, Arthur Whitlatch, and Baby Girl Volkman; three sisters: Leatrice McEvilly of Caledonia, MN, Esther Enyart of Texas, and Lotus (Barton) Bulman of Caledonia, MN.  He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: infant twins Thomas and Walter Huffey, Lloyd (Myrtle), Vinton (Lillian), Vernon (Marian), Shirley (LuVerne) Brown, Greta Lockhart, and Merle (Jyles) Schultz.
