The next time a person walks into Maynard Savings Bank (MSB), he or she may notice that a few changes have been made.

MSB recently remodeled the lobby and teller stations of its Maynard location by repainting the walls, replacing the carpet, installing floor coverings in the lobby, and by renovating the teller lines.

The last time the interior of the bank was remodeled was in 1988 with the exterior being remodeled as recently as 2000.

The bank contracted with Kirk Gross Company in Waterloo, with which it has worked with previously, to oversee completion of the renovation.

Originally, the lobby was fully carpeted; that is no longer the case. The bank chose glazed-porcelain tile in a warm shade of grey for the lobby and down the hallway leading into the MSB board room.

However, the area behind the teller stations remains fully carpeted. Miller Flooring Installation of Fairbank installed both the glazed-porcelain tile as well as the greyish Artist-2 carpet. All flooring material was locally purchased from Hazelberg Floor Covering in Hazleton.

It had been a while since the teller stations at Maynard Savings Bank had been upgraded. The old counter line featured L-shaped portions that made up each teller window. This took up quite a bit of room. It was replaced with curved stations that use a dark wood finish and a corian countertop.

The new teller lines provides more open space for tellers and other Maynard Savings Bank employees behind the line to move around to the different desks and stations.

“We like it; change is always good,” said Sheryl Sherman, Maynard Savings Bank assistant cashier. “It is kind of nice to be a little more updated.”

A renovation wouldn’t be complete without a fresh coat of paint. MSB decided on Utterly Beige as its color of choice for the public area of the bank. The bank contracted with local company Iowa House Painters in Fayette. All necessary electrical work was completed by Cushion Plumbing and Heating in Maynard.

“It was time to go a little more of a contemporary look,” closed C.J. Lensing, Maynard Savings Bank executive vice president.
