Carroll Lamar Larson, 73, of Elkader, IA, and Culver City, CA, died Friday, August 26, 2016, at his home in Culver City. He was born May 21, 1943, in rural Elkader, to Adolph and Mary (Johnson) Larson. Carroll was baptized in 1943, and confirmed in 1958, both at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader.

 

He graduated from Central Community High School in 1961, and went on to Lakeland College in Sheboygan, WI, where he received his Bachelor’s degree. Carroll then attended Golden Gate University in San Francisco where he earned his MBA. 

 

Carroll served in the United States Air Force from September 28, 1967, to January 10, 1991, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.  He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in 1969 and 1970. He was a Military Officer in the USAF while on active duty. Carroll also worked for the USAF at the Space and Missile Systems Center in Los Angeles for 30 years. He was a member of the National Contract Management Association (NCMA), Military Officers’ Association of America (MOAA), Reserve Officers Association (ROA) and Highland Lutheran Church.

 

He enjoyed watching the L.A. Lakers, fishing, spending time with family when back in Iowa. Carroll also enjoyed taking pictures and sharing at the Larson Family gatherings.

 

He is survived by his brothers, Mervin Larson of Postville, Donald (Rita) Larson of Elkader; sisters, Velma Berns of Elkader and Mildred Christianson of Edgewood; nieces and nephews, Gary (Carol) Berns, Sharon (Dan) Pearson, Sandra Larson, Shirleen (Mike) Reinhardt, Karma (Charlie) Poesch, Mardelle (Leon) Streicher, Diane Smith, Larry (Annette) West, Cheryl (Randy) Sherman, Debbie (Dick) Crane, Dawn (Greg) Anderson, Dixie (Brian) Wilker, Doug (Sue) Larson, Joan (Rob) Bolinger, Brad (Linda) Christianson, Kenneth Christianson, Karen (Martin) Nissen, Roger (Mario) West and several other family members.

 

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Norma Harrington and Ruby Rivers; sister-in-law, ElvaMae Larson; nephew, Stanley M. Larson; niece, Wanda Christianson; great niece, Brenda Rodenberg; brothers-in-law, Bill Christianson, Herbert Berns, Robert West and Dean Rivers.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Highland Lutheran Church or Central Community Hospital.

 

Funeral Service:  11:00 am on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader

Interment with Military Honors: Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elkader

Visitation: 4 to 7 pm on Monday, September 5, 2016, at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
