Daryl Appelman, 74, of West Union, Iowa passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Gundersen Health Systems in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.  

Daryl Clarence, the son of Lewis and Agnes (Winter) Appelman, was born April 4, 1943 in Hawkeye, Iowa. 

Daryl graduated with the Class of 1961 from North High School in West Union and then attended Universal Trade School in Omaha, Nebraska.  

Daryl worked for Schwan’s Company and Reyner Vault Company in West Union and Blessing Industries in Fayette, Iowa. He also mowed lawns at North Fayette Schools and the West Union Recreation Center.

He served with the Army National Guard for six years.

Daryl was united in marriage with Judith Weidemann on May 18, 1968 at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union.  To this union one daughter, Sarah, was born.

Daryl was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and West Union American Legion Post 15.  

He loved attending his grandchildren’s activities, playing cards, solving crossword puzzles, gardening, fishing, and snuggling with his dog, Sophie.

Daryl is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judy; his daughter, Sarah (Nathan) Lerch of West Union; his grandchildren, Allison Ahern, Kaylee Lerch, Dylan Lerch, and Nolan Lerch; three siblings, Charles Appelman of Normal, Illinois; Dorothy (Nick) Steinlage of West Union; and Tom (Becky) Appelman of Freeport, Illinois; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Willie (Kathryn) Weidemann, Paul (Deanna) Weidemann, Karen (Dale) Dyke, Fred (Kathy) Mittan, and Elaine Weidemann, all of West Union; and many nieces and nephews.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Agnes; father- and mother-in-law, Carl and Laura Weidemann; brothers- and sister-in-law, John Weidemann; Charlie and Carol Weidemann; and a nephew, Tim Steinlage.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 am Friday, June 2, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union.

Interment was held in the West Union Cemetery in West Union, Iowa with military rites.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Services of West Union, Iowa assisted the family with arrangements.         23u23
