The West Union swim team won its first meet of the season Tuesday, June 19, in Sumner, 383-316.

Head coach Kennedy Balk said the win was, a total team effort.

As for individual efforts, Balk singled out a few key people who had particularly good efforts. Included were the Lundgren brothers, Jaxson and Brooxton, who were first and second, respectively, in the 8-and-under 25 freestyle.

Carl Moser won the 9/10 100 individual medley, while Maeley Nefzger captured gold in the 11/12 50 fly.

In the 15-18 age groups, Matt Appler and Tiffanie Koch each captured a pair of gold medals after winning the boys’ and girls’ 25 and 50 backstroke.

West Union’s first home meet last Thursday against Cresco was postponed due to weather. It will be made up Tuesday, July 18, in West Union.
