Robert Proctor

Robert W. Proctor, age 91, passed away at Manor Care Nursing Home in Waterloo, Iowa on July 5, 2017.

Robert was one of two children born to Ralph and Wanda Proctor of Alpha, Ia.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his sister, Lorraine (Rollin) Krueger, stepchildren Roger Huschen of Alpha, IA and Lucinda (Vernon) Schmitz of West Union, IA, and three children, Luanne Douglas of Forest City, IA, Charlie Proctor of Boone, IA, and Tim (Jenny) Proctor of Patton, MO.

Robert proudly served his country as a Private in the United States Army and was a cook during the WW II campaign in the Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion for 70 years.

Robert worked as a farm hand and, later, an over the road truck driver. His youngest son, Tim, recalls the times in his childhood that he would accompany his father on work trips, and especially remembers the exciting time that they were pulled over and temporarily jailed while carrying a load of explosives through Las Vegas.

Robert and his wife, Patricia, acquired the Alpha Tavern in the ‘80s and made many colorful and lasting memories during the years they owned the business.

Robert was an avid fisherman, rarely missed an auction, and enjoyed collecting and selling scrap metal. He was followed around his farm by his rag-tag collection of cats, whom he fed with fidelity. He found joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will gather for a private graveside memorial and celebration of life on July 22.          29u29
