After starting the week with a loss to fellow Upper Iowa Conference school Turkey Valley, the Warrior boys ended their three-game losing stream with a dominating win over West Central to close out the week.

Turkey Valley

South Winn trekked to Turkey Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 9, for a matchup against a tough Turkey Valley team. Despite a solid first half for the Warriors, the Trojans pulled away in the second half to win, 60-49.

“This game was a tough pill to swallow because we played pretty good fundamental basketball against a very talented Turkey Valley team, but we were unable to capitalize,” said coach Blake Moen. “Credit Turkey Valley for playing a complete game and capitalizing. Although it’s a loss, we will use this as a tool to continue to grow and get better for our next contest.”

The Warriors were led by senior Cole Klimesh, who recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds. Levi Lukes (11) and Brennan Holthaus (10) also scored in double digits to help lead the team.

The Warriors got back on track in a big way Friday night with a 72-48 win over West Central. Not only did SW drop an impressive 30 points in the opening quarter, but every player on Coach Moen’s roster scored at least a point.

“This was a nice win after losing a few games in a row to a couple of tough teams,” said Moen after the decisive win. “I think it’s a nice confidence booster for our team as we prepare for the rest of the season.”

The Warriors were led offensively by Levi Lukes (18) and Brennan Holthaus (13), while Cole Klimesh (6), Mason Elsbernd (4), and Lucas Feltz (4) controlled the rebounding department. Senior Hunter Todd also had nine assists and five steals.
