Edna Belle Lindsey, 91, of Decorah, Iowa passed away Friday, January 12, 2018 at Wellington Place Nursing Home in Decorah.  Edna Belle, the daughter of Emory and Cleo (White) Hubbartt, was born August 12, 1926 at the family’s rural home in Skylar County, Missouri.  At the age of sixteen, Edna Belle graduated from high school in Lancaster, Missouri.

During World War II, Edna Belle was working for a hospital in Temple, Texas.  She met a “persistent” Army medic from Ohio, Clark F. Lindsey.  They were united in marriage on May 3, 1945.  They were blessed with two children, Charles Clark “Chuck” Lindsey and Sarah Kaye Lindsey.  Early in their marriage the couple made various homes in Texas, Ohio, and Iowa.  In 1951, they moved to Postville, Iowa, where they lived for over thirty years.  Edna Belle and Clark moved from Postville to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Manchester, Iowa, and to Waukon, Iowa in 1992, where Edna Belle lived in her home until 2016.

Edna Belle enjoyed playing cards, traveling, camping, boating, and fishing, decorating cakes, keeping up with photos and visits with the children in her life of family and friends.  She loved reminiscing, conversation, and laughter.  She will be remembered for the love and advice she gave and her many quaint idioms.  Despite tragic losses in her life, she continued to be full of love.  Edna Belle will be loved and missed by many.

Edna Belle is survived by her sister, Ronna Jean Stull; sisters-in-law, Marie Hubbartt and Martha Jane Hubbartt; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, great-great-great nieces and great-great-great nephews.

Edna Belle was preceded in death by her husband, Clark, in 2005; her children, Sgt. Charles “Chuck” Lindsey in 1968 and Sarah Kaye in 1981; and her brothers, Max and Ronnie Hubbartt.

            The family wishes to thank all her friends and neighbors that assisted Edna in the later years of her life, and also the wonderful staff at Wellington Place in Decorah.

            Per her wishes, there will be no memorial service.  A private family burial will be held at a later date in the Postville Cemetery.

            In lieu of flowers, memorials in Edna Belle’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society or Disabled Veterans charities.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Postville, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
