Area Fourth of July celebrations

 

 

Area Fourth of July celebrations promise a variety of activities and entertainment in addition to the usual oohs and aahs of a traditional fireworks show. Following are some area plans for the Fourth of July 2018:

 

West Union – On Tuesday, July 4, activities kick off at 8 a.m. with a 16-inch softball tournament at the West Union Recreation Complex. The West Union Aquatic Center’s annual pool carnival will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. A historical tour of West Union will begin at the Aquatic Center and run from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost of the tour is $3. The West Union Chamber — A Main Street Community will have games and inflatables for the kids to enjoy at the Recreation Complex starting at 4 p.m. Food will be available throughout the afternoon, as well as music from Adam Beck and Amber starting at 5 p.m. Miss West Union will be crowned at 7 p.m., with the fireworks display scheduled for 9:30 p.m. 

 

Clermont – A holiday fireworks show for the Valley community is set for Wednesday, July 4, at dark. The fireworks will take place over the campground lake at Skip-A-Way Resort in Clermont.

 

Festina – The Firecracker 5K, sponsored by the Festina Improvement Association, will start at Neal’s Auto Body in Festina on July 4. Race time is 9 a.m., with prizes awarded to the top three male and female finishers and to children 12 and under. Festina’s annual Fourth of July parade will begin at 11 a.m.

 

Garnavillo —The small town on the Mississippi River has two days of fun-filled events planned to celebrate America’s independence. On Tuesday, July 3, at 5 p.m. is an ice-cream social in the city park. A Teddy Bear Parade will follow at 6 p.m. In the event of rain, the festivities will be moved to the gym. Festivities kick off on the Fourth of July with a 5K at 7 a.m. followed by a parade at 10 a.m. After the parade is entertainment in the city park with fireworks at dusk. 

 

Spillville – Celebrate Independence Day starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7, in Spillville at Riverside Park and The Inwood. Admission to the park is $3 per person or $5 per car. A fun run will get the day underway with registration at 8 a.m. and the race at 8:30 a.m. Games for all ages, music, and concessions will be available in the afternoon. Spillville’s renown fireworks show will start at 9:30 p.m.
