 Eleanor “Ellie” Theresa Maas, 78, of Lamont, Iowa entered into her eternal rest on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

     Memorial Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Strawberry Point with Rev. John Haugen officiating. 

Visitration was held from 4 until 7:30 p.m.  on Thursday and for one hour before the service on Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Strawberry Point.

Parish Scripture Service:  7:30 P.M. on Thursday at the church.

Final Resting Place: St. Albert Cemetery, Lamont, Iowa.

     Eleanor Theresa Schrandt was born April 4, 1941 at West Union, Iowa, the daughter of Walter William and Christina Mary Kruse Schrandt. She attended grade school at Donnan, Iowa and then graduated from West Union High School with the class of 1959.

     Eleanor was united in marriage to Howard Leon Hildebrand on June 10, 1959. To this union were born four children: Judy, Janet, Joyce, and David. The family farmed all over eastern Iowa, until they were divorced in 1970. 

     Eleanor was then married to Francis Dean Maas on December 12, 1971 at Galena, Illinois. To this union was born one son Dean. They lived in Lamont for the rest of their lives.  Francis died on June 11, 1988 after which Eleanor continued living in Lamont.

     Eleanor (Ellie) worked as a housekeeper for the Priest in Lamont for a number of years, was active for many years raising her family, and then worked at McElroy’s Food Market in Winthrop for many years and finally for Advanced Data Com in Oelwein retiring in 2002. She loved to crochet, do Jigsaw puzzles, paint by number, gardening and canning, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eleanor was a very straight forward , no nonsense person who liked to tell it the way it was. 

     Survivors include her five children: Judy (Larry) Duff of Waterloo; Janet (Ralph) Goedken of Lamont; Joyce (Richard) Kauffman of West Union; David Hildebrand of Grand Prairie, TX; and Dean (Yvonne) Maas of Leesville, LA; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, and two sisters Edna Schrandt and Arlene Lee.
