Coming off the team’s first Upper Iowa Conference title in 25 years, the West Central volleyball team was riding high going into the 2020 season. Unfortunately, the Blue Devil netters saw their stellar season come to an abrupt end Monday night as the team fell to Don Bosco in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs.

The Dons took the opening set of the night in Maynard by a score of 25-14, but West Central would bounce back to take the second game by a sore of 25-21.

In a third set that went down to the wire, Don Bosco came out on top of a 27-25 score before closing out the Blue Devils in the final set by a score of 25-11.

West Central player statistics and comments from coach Abby DeGroot were not available at press time.

The crushing loss gives the Blue Devils a final 2020 record of 10-3, a mark that includes a perfect 8-0 record in UIC play.

Don Bosco advanced to the next round of the Region 6 bracket where it will take on No. 2-ranked Wapsie Valley on Wednesday night.
